I know it’s a busy day, so I’ll keep this brief: MinnPost is behind on our year-end goal and the deadline is midnight.

We still need to raise $35,000 today to reach our goal. Will you make a donation right now to help us get there?

Over 5,000 readers have stepped up in 2024 to support local news. Will you join them and become a member today to power our nonprofit newsroom in 2025 and beyond?

P.S. I know that $35,000 sounds like a big number, but we can accomplish big things when our community of readers comes together. A donation of any size will help us get there.

With just a few days left in December, we still have a big goal to reach — we’re $49,000 short of our $130,000 goal.

That may sound like a lot, but I know we can still get there. And when you start a monthly gift right now, your first month’s donation will be matched 12 times! OR if you make a one-time gift, it’ll be matched twice!

The next $10,000 in donations will be matched thanks to the generosity of Tom Knabel & Kent Allin and Leslie & Karen Suzukamo.

What does that mean, exactly? When you give $50, it will be matched twice, for a total of $150 to MinnPost’s independent journalism.

Or if you start a monthly gift, your first installment will be matched 12 times!! Your $5/month gift will be matched $60.

So why wait? Any amount helps us reach our year-end goal and will make a huge impact.

When you give, you’re supporting the Minnesota news that our reporters are looking forward to covering in 2025.

Give now to make a huge impact and support nonprofit news in 2025 and beyond.

It’s Giving Tuesday, or as we like to say, Giving News Day, and that means we’re officially kicking off MinnPost’s Year-End Member Drive.

To start us off on a strong foot, gifts to MinnPost will be matched up to $5,000 this week, thanks to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation as part of NewsMatch 2024. That means your $50 turns into $100 for nonprofit journalism. Will you make a gift for twice the impact right now?

Here at MinnPost, we believe in providing in-depth, independent journalism that is accessible to everyone, all paywall-free. The work that goes into this reporting isn’t free, though, which is why we rely on the support of our readers.

We need to raise $130,000 by Dec. 31 to reach our budget goal for the year. Will you join our community of over 5,000 members with a donation right now to show that you believe in our nonprofit newsroom?

Thanks for standing with us!

P.S.: Monthly gifts are a great way to make a big impact. Start a $10 monthly donation today!

MinnPost reader survey draws over 1,500 responses https://www.minnpost.com/inside-minnpost/2024/10/minnpost-reader-survey-draws-over-1500-responses/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.minnpost.com/?p=2183987

Over 1,500 people took our 2024 reader survey; lots of support shown for local news.

This summer, MinnPost asked readers to take our reader survey. 1,518 people completed the survey, and we’d like to share some of our findings.

The majority of respondents are engaged MinnPost readers with the majority being subscribers to at least one of MinnPost’s seven newsletter products. 85% of folks who took the survey have been reading MinnPost for 2 years or more, with 16% who have been reading us for over 10 years!

Almost 90% of respondents shared that they are satisfied or very satisfied with us — thank you!

The majority of respondents turn to MinnPost to stay informed about what’s happening in Minnesota. We also learned that our readers really love their news. Most readers check the news (MinnPost or otherwise) at least once a day.

MinnPost readers have a diverse news diet and rely on a lot of other local news organizations like MPR and the Minnesota Star Tribune to get their news, and over 70% of respondents say they pay or donate to other news organizations, both locally and nationally.

We also learned that readers are very politically engaged, with all but 9 people reporting that they have voted in the last four years.

We enjoyed reading the other thoughts folks shared about MinnPost. Here are a few of our favorites:

“I look forward to your newsletter every day. It’s my taste of back home.”

“Your choices for topics are relevant and I think your reporters are actual ethical trained researchers who take their job seriously seeking the truth. I also find their opinions entertaining and it is clear when they are only opinions.”

“MinnPost is essential in my News arsenal. Your reporters are excellent and the information gathered from other News sources around the state provides a good overview and understanding of what’s important.”

“I appreciate the in-depth coverage and quality of the writing.”

Thanks to everyone who took the survey — we appreciated the feedback and learning more about our readers.

Thank you for supporting MinnPost!

Thanks to the generosity of 150 donors, we met our goal for the Fall Member Drive! Raising $10,077 in 12 days is no small feat, and we are so thankful for the support of our readers. This will help us keep our fundraising on track for the rest of the year, which is especially important during a consequential election.

During the drive, we set an extra goal for ourselves: surpass 5,000 MinnPost Members. And I’m happy to report that we have surpassed that goal and now are 5,020 members strong!

The support of our readers means so much to us, and we loved reading through the comments about why people gave. Here are a few of our favorites:

“MinnPost offers refreshingly spin-free, long-form journalism; particularly that of a local bent that gives me a lot of information & context to help understand local policy.” – Daniel, Minneapolis

“We need independent voices to give us accurate information.” – Susan, Eden Prairie

“MinnPost does great journalism and keeps it accessible.” – Matthew, Duluth

“Your journalism is outstanding.” – Andrea, Northfield

Thank you to everyone who donated! With less than a month to go until the election, we’re looking forward to doing what we can to report on the election and news that matters to Minnesotans.

P.S. If you meant to make a gift but didn’t have a chance, you still can! We rely on the support of our readers year-round, so you can make a donation right now.

MinnPost Fall Member Drive

It’s the last day of our Fall Member Drive, and we need your help to raise $2,600 to reach our $10,000 goal.

Here at MinnPost, we believe that access to news should be available to everyone, especially in an election year when voters have to make informed decisions. That’s why our election coverage (and all of our reporting) is always available completely free of charge.

That work does cost money to produce though. Will you show your support of our nonprofit newsroom with a donation right now?

The goal isn’t some made up number. As a 501(c)(3), we rely on reader support, and we really do need to raise $10,000 to stay on track for our yearly budget and ensure our reporters have the resources they need to tell the stories that matter.

Over 100 donors have stepped up since our Fall Member Drive started to join our community of more than 5,000 donors. Will you join them and support our nonprofit newsroom with a tax-deductible gift right now?

P.S. Any amount makes you a MinnPost member — $10, $25, $100 — whatever fits your personal budget! Join our community of 5,000 members with a gift of any size today.

MinnPost Fall Member Drive

The leaves are starting to change (well, Up North they are) and it’s finally time for my favorite season. And here at MinnPost, we’re keeping busy getting everything ready for MinnPost Festival and ramping up our coverage ahead of November’s election.

We do this work because of folks like you. We know our readers want us to cover elections so they can make the most informed decisions when they head to the polls. We don’t tell you how to vote — we report on what candidates are saying and what their long-term plans could mean for Minnesotans. We’re proud to play a part in keeping our readers up to date.

This work is only possible thanks to the financial support of our members. Will you help us start our Fall Member Drive off strong with a tax-deductible donation today?

Your support will not only help us continue to produce top-notch journalism, but it also means you’re joining a community of almost 5,000 members who stand behind independent, local news. And members get extra benefits like discounts to MinnPost Festival (which is happening this Saturday!).

At the Festival you’ll experience a full day of in-person programming featuring national and local voices, and you’ll get a chance to talk to some of our reporters. Plus, all members in attendance can pick up an exclusive thank-you gift (hint: it’s a super cute tote bag).

So why wait? Donate today to play a bigger role with MinnPost, getting our Fall Member Drive off to a strong start and supporting the local news you love.
